Soccer Game Preview: Lemont vs. Thornton Fractional North/Thornton Fractional South

The Lemont Lemont HS will venture away from home to square off against the Thornton Fractional North/Thornton Fractional South Meteors at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lemont's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Lemont's tournament run continued when they took on Maine South on Saturday. The Lemont HS fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 2-1. While losing is never fun, Lemont can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Maine South are ranked 19th).

Meanwhile, Thornton Fractional North/Thornton Fractional South kept a clean sheet against Argo on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 5-0 margin over the Argonauts. Considering Thornton Fractional North/Thornton Fractional South have won six matchups by more than three goals this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Thornton Fractional North/Thornton Fractional South has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-8-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 18 goals over those four contests. As for Lemont, their loss dropped their record down to 12-5-2.

Lemont took their victory against Thornton Fractional North/Thornton Fractional South when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 4-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lemont HS since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
