Basketball Recap: Coxsackie-Athens Takes a Loss

Coxsackie-Athens entered their game against Franklin Academy on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks came up short against the Franklin Academy Huskies, falling 69-43. While losing is never fun, the Riverhawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 198th, while the Huskies are ranked 40th).

Despite the loss, Coxsackie-Athens still got an impressive performance from Baileigh Briski, who posted 18 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Briski is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Camryn Slater was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with ten points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Coxsackie-Athens smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 19 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Coxsackie-Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 17-2. As for Franklin Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-1.

Coxsackie-Athens wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 63-37 loss against Stillwater on the 20th. As for Franklin Academy, they have also already played their next game, a 54-47 win against Beekmantown on the 20th.
