Baseball Recap: New Roads Find Success

While New Roads's win against Rolling Hills Prep wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Jaguars narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Huskies 10-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Jaguars have posted since February 18th.

Santiago Jimenez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of New Roads' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 8-10 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Sebastian Berumen and Sawyer Hollis did most of the damage at the plate: Berumen went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Hollis went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Donovan Eastwood was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

New Roads now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Rolling Hills Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-6-1.

Looking ahead, New Roads will venture away from home to face off against Jordan at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with the Jaguars sitting on three straight victories and the Panthers on four. As for Rolling Hills Prep, they will be taking part in a tournament against University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
