Recap: Durango Demons vs. Grand Junction Central Warriors
It was a good run, but the Durango Demons unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a hard 52-33 fall against Grand Junction Central. Durango was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Grand Junction Central apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Durango lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mariah Maestas. Despite the final result, she scored seven points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Grand Junction Central got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Krystyna Manzanarez out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Manzanarez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Brynn Wagner was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five assists and four steals.
Durango dropped their record down to 7-6 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Grand Junction Central, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-8.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Grand Junction the next time they take the court. Durango will head out to face Grand Junction at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Grand Junction Central will host them at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
