Basketball Recap: Elkhorn Valley Takes Down Cross County in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Elkhorn Valley rose to the challenge on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 52-32 margin over the Cross County Cougars. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Elkhorn Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jj Black out in front who shot 89% from the field en route to 16 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Black a new career-high in shooting accuracy. Karlee Broberg was another key player, going 7-for-14 on her way to 18 points.

Elkhorn Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cross County only eight assists.

Despite the loss, Cross County had strong showings from Lindee Kelley, who posted two points in addition to six rebounds and six steals, and Ella Clark, who scored nine points. Kelley has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Delainey Cramer also deserves some recognition as she pulled down her first board of the season.

The victory keeps them at an undefeated 27-0. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.9 points on average over those games. As for Cross County, the defeat snapped their winning streak at 12 games and leaves them with a 24-3 record.

Elkhorn Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-42 win against Guardian Angels Central Catholic on the 7th. Cross County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
