Basketball Recap: Bear Creek Comes Up Short

Bear Creek lost against Columbine two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Bear Creek Bears took a 74-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Columbine Rebels. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Bear Creek still got an impressive performance from Alen Avdic, who posted 23 points along with five boards and three steals. That was a full 33.8% of Bear Creek's points, marking the third time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Hegerle, who scored ten points and five rebounds.

Jeremiah Shortis went supernova for Columbine, going 11 for 14 on his way to 34 points and seven boards. Shortis is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last five games he's played. Dyson Boykin was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

Bear Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Columbine, they pushed their record up to 11-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Bear Creek will face off against Arvada West at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Arvada West is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 70.9 points per game this season. As for Columbine, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 88-72 loss against Valor Christian on the 8th.
