Recap: Thunderbird Titans vs. Yuma Criminals

Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 15 to 5 on the offensive boards, a fact the Thunderbird Titans proved on Thursday. They walked away with a 62-51 victory over Yuma. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Thunderbird.

Thunderbird got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Will Clark out in front who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Clark hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Benson, who scored a point along with 25 steals.

Yuma's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andrew Mosqueda, who scored 13 points along with four steals and two blocks. Mosqueda has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jorge Moreno, who scored nine points.

Thunderbird pushed their record up to 14-5 with that win, which was their 11th straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Yuma, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-3.

Thunderbird won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Greenway at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Greenway will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 266th, while Thunderbird is ranked 59th). Yuma won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Shadow Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Shadow Mountain focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Thursday.
