Basketball Recap: Lawrence Upper Falls to Westside Christian Academy in First Game of Season

Lawrence Upper had to start their season on the road on Saturday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell 41-33 to the Westside Christian Academy Eagles. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 59-37 to the Eagles when the teams met back in December of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Lawrence Upper's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evan Rone, who posted 15 points. Dino DiSanto was another key player, putting up nine points.

Westside Christian Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zach Zhakunets, who shot 63% from the field on his way to 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. That's the most points Zhakunets has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jude Putnam, who went 6-for-8 to rack up 15 points along with five boards and four steals.

The victory got Westside Christian Academy back to even at 1-1.

Lawrence Upper has already played their next contest (against Tournament Team), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Westside Christian Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 64-17 defeat against HEARTS for Jesus Christ on the 22nd.
