Basketball Game Preview: Azusa Aztecs vs. Sierra Vista Dons

Azusa is 1-9 against Sierra Vista since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Azusa Aztecs just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Sierra Vista Dons at 6:00 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Adam Sanchez and Aaron Buna.

Azusa fought the good fight in their overtime match against Baldwin Park on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Braves by a score of 46-43. The Aztecs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, everything went Sierra Vista's way against Duarte on Thursday as Sierra Vista made off with a 65-43 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Dons.

Sierra Vista is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Azusa, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4.

Azusa might still be hurting after the 57-37 defeat they got from Sierra Vista in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Azusa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
