Softball Recap: Whiteland Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Whiteland had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They had just enough and edged out the Columbus East Olympians 5-4 on Thursday. The win was familiar territory for the Warriors, who have now won five contests in a row.

Jordyn Crouch spent all 77 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kaelyn Putnam, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Addi Smith was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles.

Whiteland's victory bumped their record up to 18-8. As for Columbus East, they moved to 10-16 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Whiteland will face off against Terre Haute North Vigo at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. Columbus East does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
