Softball Recap: Courtland Cougars vs. Riverbend Bears
Courtland extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 4-8 in the process. They lost 14-1 to the Riverbend Bears. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in March.
Courtland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Brooks, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.
As for Riverbend, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 13-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games.
On Riverbend's side, Isa Barber was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave Barber a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe King, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Coming up, Courtland will face off against Caroline at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cavaliers have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season. As for Riverbend, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Mountain View at 6:00 p.m. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
