Flag Football Game Preview: Grossmont Foothillers vs. Steele Canyon Cougars

Two dominant wideouts in Gabi Thomas and Kaliani Ewing are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Grossmont Foothillers will square off against the Steele Canyon Cougars at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.

If Grossmont beats Steele Canyon with 26 points on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Everything went the Foothillers' way against Santana on Thursday as they made off with a 26-0 win. Considering the Foothillers have won nine contests by more than 19 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Among those leading the charge was Marissa Farace, who threw for 119 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also punched in one TD on the ground.

Grossmont didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Leah Garcia and Ari Simpson were the leaders of the group effort as each produced two apiece. Simpson has been hot recently, having also posted at least one defended passe the last three times she's played. She got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Steele Canyon was able to grind out a solid victory over Granite Hills on Thursday, taking the game 26-13.

Grossmont better keep an eye on Sophia Jackel. She was instrumental in Steele Canyon's win, throwing for 259 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.5% of her passes. What's more, Jackel racked up 20 rushing yards, the most she's had since back in September.

One reason for the win was Steele Canyon's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Joelle Frazier was especially locked on to Granite Hills' QB and sacked her four times.

Grossmont's record is now 16-3. As for Steele Canyon, their record now sits at 15-4.

Grossmont lost to Steele Canyon on the road by a decisive 18-0 margin when the teams last played back in September. Can the Foothillers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
