Baseball Game Preview: Van Alstyne Panthers vs. Godley Wildcats

The Van Alstyne Panthers will take on the Godley Wildcats on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Van Alstyne is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They skirted past Krum 6-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

The team relied heavily on Cason Howard, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Barrett, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, Godley never let their opponents score on Thursday. They blew past Carter 13-0. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by six runs or more this season.

Jackson Duke looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ryder Papasan was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Adam Pempsell, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Godley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carter only posted an OBP of .167.

Godley is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Van Alstyne, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
