Softball Game Preview: Wekiva Mustangs vs. Windermere Wolverines

The Wekiva Mustangs will be taking part in a tournament against the Windermere Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Wekiva has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Windermere will arrive with three straight victories.

Wekiva managed to slip by Lake Buena Vista the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Mustangs lost 17-8 to the Vipers on Thursday.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Windermere and Ocoee meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Wolverines came out on top against the Knights by a score of 6-1.

Lauren Harper was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Tessa Olofson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sabrina Boyer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

Windermere's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Wekiva, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-9.
