Softball Recap: Oil City Comes Up Short

Oil City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They lost 15-3 to the Franklin Knights. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Oilers of the 15-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Shalyn Whittemore was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Whittemore was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Ayla Hall was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Ariana Griffin was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Oil City's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Franklin, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-9.

While Oil City had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
