Basketball Recap: Adam Camacho's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Marshall over Stevens

Marshall was the 84-77 winner over Stevens when they last played one another back in January of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Marshall Rams took a 68-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Stevens Falcons on Friday. While the Rams didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Falcons 20-15 in the first quarter.

Marshall lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Adam Camacho, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Vidaurri, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 12 points in addition to seven assists and five boards.

Stevens' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jose Ochoa, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 18 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Ochoa a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Zane Schunior, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 18 points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Marshall has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-16 record this season. As for Stevens, they moved to 11-12 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Marshall will face off against Taft at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Marshall knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Taft likes a good challenge. As for Stevens, they will take on Holmes at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Stevens is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.9 points per game this season.
