Basketball Game Preview: Matoaca Warriors vs. The Covenant Eagles

The Matoaca Warriors will head out on the road to challenge The Covenant Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Matoaca has three straight victories, The Covenant has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

On Friday, Matoaca earned a 57-49 win over John Marshall.

Kailah Carter and Sydney Richardson were among the main playmakers for Matoaca as the former went 8 for 12 on her way to 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals and the latter went 6 of 13 en route to 19 points in addition to six boards and five assists. The game was Carter's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Kendra Carter was another key player, putting up six points.

Meanwhile, The Covenant played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 64-38 to Steward. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Eagles have suffered since March 1, 2024.

Matoaca has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points per game. As for The Covenant, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-5.

Matoaca came up short against The Covenant in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 48-37. Can Matoaca avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
