Softball Recap: Wewahitchka Comes Up Short

Wewahitchka came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Trenton Tigers, falling 9-1. The Gators haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Severa Haney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and eight unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Emma Rustin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and one double.

Wewahitchka's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Trenton, their record now sits at 5-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wewahitchka will take on Liberty County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Trenton, they are taking a road trip to face off against Holmes County at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Trenton's pitching crew has only allowed 1.5 runs per game this season, so Holmes County's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
