The Aurora Central Catholic Chargers will venture away from home to face off against the IC Catholic Prep Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Aurora Central Catholic has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Monday, Aurora Central Catholic had just enough and edged out De La Salle 4-3.
Corina Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kate Gambro, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Sophia Delgado, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask IC Catholic Prep). They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over Trinity on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Lexi Russ was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with seven RBI, four runs, and three doubles. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariani Zito, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases and three runs.
IC Catholic Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trinity only posted an OBP of .211.
Aurora Central Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for IC Catholic Prep, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-9.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Aurora Central Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like IC Catholic Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .379. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Aurora Central Catholic came up short against IC Catholic Prep when the teams last played back in April, falling 9-4. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
