Baseball Recap: South Lyon East's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

South Lyon East dropped their record down to 11-12 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell 5-2 to the Walled Lake Western Warriors. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Cougars couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Walled Lake Western, their victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-14-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

For Walled Lake Western's part, Lucas Hoffmeyer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up six Ks. Hoffmeyer has become a key player for the Warriors: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 9-13-2 otherwise.

At the plate, Mickey Gross and Dallas Sauve did most of the damage at the plate: Gross went 3-for-4 with two runs, while Sauve went 3-for-4 with two doubles. That's the most hits Gross has posted since back in April. Vincent Roach also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Lyon East will challenge Chippewa Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Walled Lake Western, they will take on Avondale at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
