Football Recap: Citrus Valley Blackhawks vs. La Quinta Blackhawks
Citrus Valley was the 53-10 winner over La Quinta when they last played one another back in September of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. Citrus Valley took a hard 36-20 fall against La Quinta on Friday. Citrus Valley was up 14-0 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Despite the defeat, Citrus Valley had strong showings from Dominic Robles, who threw for 292 yards and two TDs, and Junior Risper, who picked up 124 receiving yards and one score. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 80 yards. A healthy portion of Robles' aerial production (83 yards to be exact) also went to Jaymie Evans.
La Quinta's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Roman Ansley led the charge by rushing for 166 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries, while also throwing for 137 yards and one TD. Those 166 rushing yards gave Ansley a new career-high. Simon Simonian also helped out as he racked up 165 rushing yards.
Citrus Valley's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for La Quinta, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
Looking ahead, Citrus Valley will be playing at home against Upland at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for La Quinta, they are taking a road trip to face off against Hesperia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 937 yards in their previous games.
