Basketball Recap: Timpview Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Salem Hills

On Friday, Timpview faced Salem Hills in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Timpview Thunderbirds took a 55-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Salem Hills Skyhawks. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thunderbirds this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 45-35 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Timpview still got an impressive performance from Lina Ballin, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. The matchup was Ballin's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Bella Ballin, who posted nine points.

It was another big night for Chenielle Nye, who put up 19 points and six rebounds for Salem Hills. With that strong performance, Nye is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Alexa Vance was another key player, putting up eight points along with seven steals and five boards.

Timpview has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Salem Hills, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.

Timpview will face off against Spanish Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Timpview is facing Spanish Fork at the right time seeing as Spanish Fork is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Salem Hills, they will square off against Springville at 5:15 p.m. on January 31st.
