Soccer Game Preview: Metea Valley vs. Benet Academy

The Metea Valley Mustangs will square off against the Benet Academy Redwings at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Metea Valley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Illinois' top teams: Hinsdale Central, who was ranked 12th at the time (Metea Valley was ranked 15th). The Mustangs fell 3-1 to the Red Devils on Thursday. The match was a 0-0 toss-up at halftime, but Metea Valley couldn't quite close it out.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Benet Academy walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 4-1 margin over the Wildcats on Tuesday. Considering Benet Academy have won seven contests by more than two goals this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

They hit Plainfield Central with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Ashley Polanco (2), Peyton Cable, and Keira Stone.

Benet Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 13 goals over those four matchups. As for Metea Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-5 record this season.

Metea Valley took their win against Benet Academy in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 3-0 score. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Redwings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
