Softball Game Preview: Don Lugo Conquistadores vs. Chino Cowboys

The Don Lugo Conquistadores will head out to face off against the Chino Cowboys at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Don Lugo is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.

Don Lugo barely beat Montclair the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Conquistadores blew past the Cavaliers 14-1 on Friday. Considering the Conquistadores have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Alyssa Martinez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Camila Franco was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Don Lugo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Montclair only posted an OBP of .250.

Chino might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 9-1 to Whittier Christian, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Cowboys have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Don Lugo's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Chino, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.

Don Lugo couldn't quite finish off Chino when the teams last played back in March and fell 9-7. Can the Conquistadores avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
