Football Game Preview: Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs vs. Dayspring Christian Academy Eagles

Two dominant signal callers in Colin Cone and Hawkins Flanagan are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs will face off against the Dayspring Christian Academy Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Haxtun's defense has only allowed 10.6 points per game this season, so Dayspring Christian Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Haxtun is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Akron, who was ranked first at the time (Haxtun was ranked second). The Fightin' Bulldogs fell 28-24 to the Rams two weeks ago. The contest marked the Fightin' Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Haxtun got top-tier performance from Zach Statz, who rushed for 125 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. An impressive showing, but Statz really ramped things up playing D: he made ten total tackles (5.0 for loss) and defended one pass.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 50 points the game before, Dayspring Christian Academy was a bit more limited in their matchup on Saturday. They took a 14-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of Akron. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Rams recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Having lost for the first time this season, Haxtun fell to 6-1. As for Dayspring Christian Academy, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-2.

Saturday's contest might be decided on the ground. Haxtun has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 299.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Dayspring Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 247.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Everything came up roses for Haxtun against Dayspring Christian Academy when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 62-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fightin' Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
