Hartford had to settle for second on Friday, but Serenitee Martel sure wasn't going down easily. Martel made a splash, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She was dominant the last time she took on Otter Valley last Tuesday, so they probably should've seen this coming. Martel has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

Looking ahead, Martel and Hartford will be playing at home against Springfield at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hurricanes got just the result they wanted when they last faced the Cosmos thanks in part to Martel: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.
