Baseball Recap: Chaffey Takes a Loss

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Chaffey and Montclair, and Montclair kept the tradition alive. The Tigers took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cavaliers on Friday. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cavaliers earlier this season, when they won 3-0.

Jaden Resendez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Chaffey is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-7 otherwise. Resendez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Resendez wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Harlan Gomez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Chaffey's record is now 6-8. As for Montclair, with the victory, they broke their eight-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-11.

Coming up, Chaffey will challenge Chino at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cowboys will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Montclair, they will face off against Don Lugo at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cavaliers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Conquistadores have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
