Softball Recap: Bryan Finds Playoff Glory Versus Memorial

It's playoff time, and Bryan had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Memorial Roughriders a 4-0 shutout on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Golden Bears sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Memorial's batters probably weren't too happy with Thea Staten, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 15 Ks (she gave up three walks). Staten has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mylie Vollmer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Ana McCoy-Martinez was another key player, earning two runs and one stolen base.

Bryan's win bumped their record up to 16-4. As for Memorial, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 13-5 record.

Looking ahead, Bryan will face off against West Geauga at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolverines have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season. Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
