Baseball Recap: Neuse Charter Find Success

Neuse Charter had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 5-13 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They skirted past the Lakewood Leopards 5-4. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 9-6 win two weeks ago.

Connor Phillips made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayden Parr, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Neuse Charter is 5-1 when Parr posts two or more runs, but 0-12 otherwise.

As for Lakewood, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On Lakewood's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Seth Faircloth, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Coming up, Neuse Charter is taking a road trip to square off against Rosewood at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Lakewood does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
