Softball Recap: Montclair Takes a Loss

Montclair extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-13 in the process. They came up short against the Chino Cowboys, falling 14-6. The Cavaliers were not able to make up for their loss to the Cowboys from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Alexis Rubio made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. That run marked the first that she has scored this season. Another player making a difference was Zariah Surrey, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

As for Chino, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games.

On Chino's side, Kristine Lancaster spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on 14 hits.

On the hitting side, Chino let Melody Stark and Samantha Juarez run wild. Stark went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Juarez went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits Juarez has posted over her last eight matchups. Marissa Quintero was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

While Montclair had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
