Baseball Game Preview: Somerset Academy Panthers vs. Deerfield Beach Bucks

The Somerset Academy Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Deerfield Beach Bucks at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Somerset Academy has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

It was a proper cat-fight when Somerset Academy challenged Mater Academy Charter on Friday. Somerset Academy fell just short of Mater Academy Charter by a score of 5-4.

Kareem Amer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 6.1 innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Jon Mora made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Christian Cordero also deserves some recognition as he stole his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Deerfield Beach entered their tilt with Cooper City on Thursday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They skirted past the Cowboys 6-4.

Deerfield Beach's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Easton Viveros, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Deerfield Beach's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Somerset Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Somerset Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Deerfield Beach struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts.
