Softball Recap: Sickles Has No Trouble Against Armwood

Sickles won the last time they faced Armwood and things went their way on Thursday too. Everything went the Sickles Gryphons' way against the Armwood Hawks as the Sickles Gryphons made off with a 15-0 victory. With that win, the Gryphons brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Lauren Larsen made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Kalyssa Austin and Zoe Mello did most of the damage at the plate: Austin went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI, while Mello went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. The dominant performance gave Austin a new career-high in RBI. Brianna Welk was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.

Sickles always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Armwood only posted an OBP of .111.

The victory made it two in a row for Sickles and bumps their season record up to 5-8. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11 runs. As for Armwood, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-6.

Sickles will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Strawberry Crest at 7:00 p.m. on March 25th. Strawberry Crest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season. Armwood also won't see the field for a while: their next game is against King at 7:00 p.m. on March 25th.
