Football Recap: Marksville Tigers vs. Mansfield Wolverines

Marksville and Mansfield squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Marksville had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Wolverines by a score of 62-60. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (48), the Tigers still had to take the loss.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Devin Lavalais, who rushed for 174 yards and five scores, and also threw for 163 yards and one TD. Lavalais' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 103 rushing yards. Jayden Holmes helped out on the ground, rushing for 112 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Mansfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Terrell Pegues, who rushed for 185 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Pegues also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making three total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending two passes. Jaterrious Howard was another key player, rushing for 57 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries.

Marksville's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Mansfield, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-2.

Marksville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mansfield, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 44-20 loss against Jena on the 28th.
