Basketball Recap: New Palestine Takes Down Shelbyville in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, New Palestine rose to the challenge on Friday. They walked away with a 35-27 victory over the Shelbyville Golden Bears. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Dragons.

New Palestine's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sadey Hughbanks, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. That's the most boards Hughbanks has posted since back in December of 2023. Kylee Beranek was another key player, putting up eight points and 14 rebounds.

New Palestine was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shelbyville only posted three assists.

Several Golden Bears players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hannah Baker, who earned nine points along with five boards and five steals. Baker is becoming a predictor of Shelbyville's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 9-2 (and 5-9 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Addy Marshall, who had five points and five rebounds.

New Palestine now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Shelbyville, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-11.

New Palestine wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 59-48 loss against Roncalli on the 8th. Shelbyville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
