Sweetwater is a perfect 4-0 against Kearny since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Sweetwater Red Devils will face off against the Kearny Komets at 3:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Kearny will be up against a hot Sweetwater team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Sweetwater blew past Lincoln 21-4 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Audrey Murillo and Tatyana Mosqueda made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Murillo pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Mosqueda pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Murillo scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Mosqueda got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one RBI. That's the most runs Murillo has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, Sweetwater got a massive performance out of Melanie Lopez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance gave Lopez a new career-high in stolen bases. Gabriella Sena was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one double.
Sweetwater was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .385 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kearny). They were the clear victor by a 14-1 margin over Julian on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Komets.
Sweetwater's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Kearny, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-4.
Sweetwater took their win against Kearny in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 15-5. Will Sweetwater repeat their success, or does Kearny have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
