Baseball Recap: Everett Comes Up Short

Everett extended their losing streak to six on Wednesday, dropping them down to 4-13. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Monroe Bearcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bearcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 on Monday.

As for Monroe, they pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

For Monroe's part, not much got past AJ Welch, who gave up just three hits and racked up 15 Ks to keep Everett off the board. Welch has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Looking ahead, Everett will welcome Meadowdale at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mavericks' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Seagulls' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Monroe, they will head out on the road to face off against Lake Stevens at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
