Baseball Game Preview: Redmond Mustangs vs. Lake Washington Kangaroos

The Redmond Mustangs will square off against the Lake Washington Kangaroos at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Redmond 3.9, Lake Washington 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Lake Washington will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Redmond extended their winning streak to five on Friday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over Bothell. The game was the first time the Mustangs have beaten the Cougars on their field since April 19, 2022.

Hiroshi Johnson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Redmond got a massive performance out of Lance Burt, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. The Mustangs are undefeated when Burt posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brandon Dayberry, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Lake Washington was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They fell just short of Issaquah by a score of 3-2. The loss continues a trend for the Kangaroos in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost three in a row.

Lake Washington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Mehlberg, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Redmond's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Lake Washington, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.

Redmond couldn't quite get it done against Lake Washington when the teams last played back in May of 2021 as they fell 5-0. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
