Basketball Recap: Tristen Weaver's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Madison County over Buckingham

Madison County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 46-41 heartbreaker at the hands of the Buckingham Knights. The Mountaineers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Knights earlier this season, when they won 33-31.

Madison County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Tristen Weaver, who posted 15 points and five rebounds. Weaver continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Willa Lewis, who put up seven points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Madison County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Madison County's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Buckingham, they pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Madison County will take on Orange County in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Buckingham and Cumberland will compete for holiday cheer at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
