Recap: Fuquay - Varina Bengals vs. Clayton Comets

The Fuquay - Varina Bengals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 76-35 loss at the hands of Clayton. While losing is never fun, Fuquay - Varina can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 418th, while Clayton is ranked 45th).

Fuquay - Varina lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Nathan Mathew, who scored six points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andres Diaz, who scored three points.

Fuquay - Varina struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Clayton was led to victory by Jeremiah Henson and Andrew Grimes. Henson scored 17 points along with two steals, while Grimes scored 18 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Henson has scored all season. Justice Mitchell was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.

Fuquay - Varina's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Clayton, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.

Fuquay - Varina will head out on the road to take on Willow Spring at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Willow Spring focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday. Clayton won't have much time to rest: their next game is against United Faith Christian Academy at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th. United Faith Christian Academy is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
