Baseball Game Preview: Oxford Wolverines vs. Woodland Regional Hawks

Oxford is 2-8 against Woodland Regional since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Wolverines will host the Hawks at 3:45 p.m.

On Tuesday, Oxford didn't have quite enough to beat Wolcott and fell 3-2. The Wolverines have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jackson Geisweit was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Huston, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Woodland Regional entered their tilt with St. Paul Catholic on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Falcons a 5-0 shutout. The Hawks' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three games.

Woodland Regional also got a great performance from Tyler Yoxall as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over 5.2 innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave Yoxall a new career-high.

At the plate, Woodland Regional let Jack Schwenger and Jason Beaudry run wild. Schwenger got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Beaudry went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits Beaudry has posted since back in May of 2024.

Woodland Regional pushed their record up to 13-11 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Oxford, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.

Oxford skirted past Woodland Regional 4-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
