Softball Game Preview: Point Loma Pointers vs. Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots

The Point Loma Pointers will face off against the Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neither Point Loma nor Academy of Our Lady of Peace posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Point Loma fell victim to Patrick Henry and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 1-0. The Pointers haven't had much luck with the Patriots recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Meanwhile, Academy of Our Lady of Peace was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Bonita Vista, falling 11-2.

Alayna Ma'Ake made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Point Loma's loss dropped their record down to 16-5-1. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Point Loma hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Academy of Our Lady of Peace struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Point Loma couldn't quite get it done against Academy of Our Lady of Peace in their previous matchup back in May of 2022 as they fell 8-5. Can the Pointers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
