Basketball Recap: Murphysboro Takes a Loss

Murphysboro lost against Newton back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Murphysboro Red Devils had to suffer through a 67-24 loss at the hands of the Newton Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 529th, while the Eagles are ranked 100th).

This is the second loss in a row for Murphysboro and nudges their season record down to 4-10. As for Newton, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Webber the next time they take the court. Murphysboro will head out to face Webber at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, while Newton will play them later in the day, at 11:30 a.m.
