Softball Game Preview: Aquinas Knights vs. Springfield Tigers

The Aquinas Knights will take on the Springfield Tigers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Aquinas and four for Springfield.

Aquinas came up short against Central Christian last Tuesday, falling 9-3.

AyraBella Bacorn was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ta'Leyah Williams, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Springfield lost 20-8 to Lowellville on Friday.

Springfield saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makenna Wymer, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those stolen bases were Wymer's first of the season. Gracie Maldonado was another, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Springfield's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Aquinas, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Aquinas has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Springfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
