Basketball Recap: Philip Simmons Comes Up Short

Philip Simmons's game on Friday was all tied up 14-14 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell just short of the Burke Bulldogs by a score of 33-30. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Iron Horses this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 54-41 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Philip Simmons lost, don't look at Germany Moore. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Moore has been hot, having posted nine or more boards the last five times she's played.

Even though they lost, Philip Simmons smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Burke's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nathaya Phoenix led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Phoenix has scored at least a third of Burke's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryanna Graham, who posted five points in addition to eight boards and six steals.

Philip Simmons' loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Burke, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Philip Simmons has already played their next matchup, a 37-28 victory against Andrews on the 3rd. As for Burke, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 45-29 win against Academic Magnet on the 3rd.
