Baseball Recap: Downers Grove North Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Downers Grove North had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Berwyn/Cicero Morton on Saturday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 12-4 win. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won six in a row.

Ryan Noonan looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Downers Grove North got a massive performance out of Sean Cabaj, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Cabaj has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Schallmoser, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Downers Grove North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.

Downers Grove North pushed their record up to 24-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Berwyn/Cicero Morton, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-22.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Downers Grove North will venture away from home to face off against York at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Berwyn/Cicero Morton, they will head out to challenge Proviso East at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs are facing the Pirates at the right time seeing as the Pirates are stuck on a 21-game losing streak.
