3A District 8 recap Oct. 16, 2012
University extended the longest winning streak in 3A District 8 this week by beating Leesburg, 42-3. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Chaminade-Madonna took down Archbishop Carroll 62-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
University's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mike White threw for 311 and four touchdowns and Dionte "DJ" Taylor had 107 yards receiving. On the ground LaJuan Hunt chipped in 87 yards. Jordan Cunningham helped University's passing attack out by catching five balls for 98 yards.
University's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Suns feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. White has thrown for 1091 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, while Taylor has 23 catches for 385 yards. Jordan Scarlett leads the league in rushing with 630 yards.
Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when Westminster Christian and Roger Harriott's team meet this week. The Warriors features well-regarded sophomore Tim Irvin while the Suns has Cunningham, a sought after senior.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Westminster Christian takes on University. Sedrick Irvin's team is in third place, while the Suns are in first place.
There should be lots of points scored when the Warriors and University face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Westminster Christian comes in having scored 180 this season, while the Suns have scored 284. The Warriors scored 42 points last week as they defeated Doral Academy.
The Lions led 3A District 8 in scoring this week after putting up 62 points on the Bulldogs.
