Softball Recap: Tri-Central Takes a Loss

Tri-Central extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-4 in the process. They fell 7-3 to the Delphi Community Oracles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 14-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Tri-Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Creason, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Creason has snagged this season.

As for Delphi Community, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

On Delphi Community's side, Mairi Cunningham made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Cunningham has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Sami Leopard was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kylynn Spitznagle, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Tri-Central will take on Daleville at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Delphi Community, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Carroll at 5:15 p.m. The Oracles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 11.1 runs per game this season.
