Volleyball Game Preview: Black River Pirates vs. Hillsdale Falcons

Black River is a perfect 3-0 against Hillsdale since August of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Pirates will be taking part in a tournament against the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Hillsdale took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Black River, who comes in off a win.

Black River took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Oberlin 3-0. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Pirates as it put an end to their three-match losing streak.

Black River was especially dominant in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-18, 25-21.

Black River had a senior duo take command as Remington Dieter had 16 digs and three assists and Kate Dieter had five aces and four digs. Remington is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 16 or more in each of the last five games she's played. Heidi Clark also deserves some recognition as she had her first digs of the season.

Meanwhile, Hillsdale was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Dalton, falling 3-0.

While Hillsdale was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-21, 25-11.

Hillsdale's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Black River, their victory bumped their record up to 15-7.

Black River was able to grind out a solid win over Hillsdale in their previous matchup back in August of 2019, winning 2-0. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
