Softball Recap: West Brook Takes a Loss

West Brook was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Nederland Bulldogs. The Bruins were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 14-11.

Calleigh Burton (2027) spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, West Brook saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylan Hawthrone (2025), who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. That stolen base was Hawthrone (2025)'s first of the season.

West Brook's loss dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Nederland, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-5.
