Basketball Recap: Newton Eagles vs. Marshall Lions

Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 51-42 to the Marshall Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 55-49 last Wednesday.

Marshall was led to victory by Trey Scott and Garrett Pugh. Scott went 6 of 13 to rack up 18 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals, while Pugh dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards. Scott is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Bentley Delp, who posted ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Newton's loss dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Marshall, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season.
